Homegrown opened in November of 2005. The idea for the shop was completely spur of the moment, and really stemmed from a strong desire not to go back to school and instead pursue something that I felt strongly about. I’ve been skateboarding in Ithaca for at least twelve years and have seen a few shops come and go in that time. I felt that I had a pretty good handle on what would work for the town, and four years later I’m still here. From the start, I wanted to bring something different to the table and really try to carve out a niche for myself as opposed to fitting into someone else’s. Homegrown is a grown up’s skateshop, I carry the brands that I personally support and that I feel best represent the shop. No frills, no gimmicks, if you’re looking for all over printed anything, you’ll be disappointed. So after four years and two locations, I’ve gotten things down to just how I want them. The shop now houses New York’s most complete selection of Adidas Skateboarding, Cons, Nike SB, and Vans, as well as Elwood and In4mation apparel. While the shop may seem out of place in upstate New York, I’m proud to offer something a little different to the skateboard community, and from your support so far, I guess I’m doing at least a few things right. Cheers!
